09 SI Rounds

Rounds 1 & 2 South Island Championship and Oceania Championship
(Team Marlborough Trials Centre
)

Nelson was the start for the South Island Trials Championship and couldn’t have ordered two great sunny days.

Both days were held at 88 Valley, Wakefield and the sections were well marked out and three good man made sections close by for the spectators.

Day 1 – Marlborough Trials Centre top rider 1NZ, Jake Whitaker, showed once again how much experience and skill he learnt from his 2008 season in Italy.  Losing no points on his first lap and a total of six points lost for the day.  With the second place rider losing 45 points.  Karl Clark from Motueka finished the day in fourth position also in Expert Grade.

Blake Fox from Dunedin was riding in intermediate class on his 125cc Sherco and finished the first day in a good solid 6th placing.

An outstanding ride from Brendon Wadsworth to come in 1st place for the day.  Also Gavin Fox riding in Presidents Grade came in at 8th place.

Day 2 – Jake Whitaker again showed his form again to claim the 1st position for the day and overall placing for the weekend to help the NZ team win the Oceania contest over Australia.  Karl Clark finished off the day again in 4th position and took out 4th position for the overall result.

Blake Fox improved from the first day to come in 4th position and only two points from a podium finish for that day and finished 5th overall for the weekend. Well done Blake.

Brendon Wadsworth once again showed that he was on form finishing the day with only 6 points lost and taking the win overall for the weekend.  Gavin Fox finished in 10th position and 9th over all for the weekend.

A Big thanks goes to Gordon and the Nelson Trials Group for a great weekend.  Also it was great to see Takumi Narita from Japan riding the Scorpa 125cc up against other riders in A Grade on 250cc bikes and winning the contest with ease with his next competitor doubling his overall score.  To the Aussie riders, thanks for making the trip over as this is great for Trials in New Zealand and also Australia.

Team MTC are looking forward to the next SI Round in Dunedin on the 18th and 19th July.

Keep ya feet up!!

Snow v’s Trials Riders
Rounds 3 & 4 South Island Championship, Dunedin

Good weather, slippery rocks from the mornings frost made day one interesting in most grades and finished just in time as the rain set in.  On day two the weather was not very good, it was cold and the riders had to fight off the slippery roads and the snow, but most riders were able to finish.

Expert riders Karl Clark Jason Baker both had a first and second placing each over the two days and go into the last round in Christchurch on tied points.  A tough battle between them both and this will make things interesting going into the last South Island round.

A Grade riders Brad Hibbs was first on both days and Jason Hibbs was second on both days.

Intermediate Grade was closely fought, but first overall went to Sam Reid, Second to Glenn Smith and an outstanding effort for third place was Blake Fox on his 125cc bike up against the bigger cc bikes.

Presidents was won by a fantastic ride by Brendon Wadsworth only losing 64 points for the whole weekend, second was Ross Bristol on 114 points and third on 143 points was Dereck Scott.

A well run event for the conditions from the Southland Trials Team.  Good sections were well put together for all grades allowing for the snow on the second day.  A good weekend overall and many laughs were had.

SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS 5 & 6

The top South Island riders headed to the Christchurch for the final rounds five and six.  After a couple of bad wet weather days prior to arriving in Christchurch we arrived to two sunny days (summer is on its way) with temperature in the 20’s on both days.

Day one in Greylees Road was consisted of eight sections on rocks and two hills climbs.  Day two was held in Omihi and sections were all under trees which was well received due to the hot condtitions.  The sections were mainly on loose pine tree needles and consisted of banks and logs.

Jake Whitaker (NZ1) made the trip south and looked right at home on the rocks on his Montesa and took out the top class for both days but was kept on his feet (on the the bike) by Motueka man Karl Clark who came in second place.

A-Grade  was closely fought between the Hibbs brothers Jason and Brad.  With Brad taking out both days for a win.

Intermediate was taken out by home town rider Glenn Smith and second placing was tied but Samuel Reid won overall and Darryl Parkhill was in third place.  Day two first place was an a outstanding ride by Stuart Corry, second Glenn Smith, Cullum Anderson from Nelson with also a good ride to come in third place.

Presidents for the weekend was again taken out by Blenheim rider Brendon Wadsworth, second on day one and two was Ross Bristal and third Keith Ruthven.  Malcom Reid was in third place on day two.

Clubman on day one was taken out by Gavin Fox of Dunedin Second Francis Sydemham and third David Hart.  Second day was also won by Gavin Fox, second Ryan Dunn and third David Hart.

Junior for both days was taken out from Motueka rider Brady Inwood and Second was David Trewin.
